I'm not aware of anyone else doing the 'sacrificial strip', but please use it - it works really well! Sometimes factory cut edges are not as square as they should be so it's always worth checking for projects when accuracy is important. In this video I'll be making an MFT style top without using a CNC or any expensive specialist jigs or guide systems - just using some basic tools that you probably already have, and a home made jig.

To remedy this, I used the included stop collar to only drill the holes about 9/10 of the way through, then flipped the piece over and finished boring out the holes from the other side. Replacing the top is very straightforward - literally 4 screws - and squaring up the fence and rail is easy on this older model. The first group just wants to cheaply reproduce a MFT top to replace the original surface and use it for general clamping purposes. The Parf Guide System includes the correct boring bit and also has a Parf Dust Port available to effectively remove the MDF chips and dust to prevent interference with the precision hole boring. It's a good idea to clamp the ruler down so that it doesn't move but I didn't bother I was just extra careful. They will support boards and planks for easier sawing and, handily, they also double-up as a temporary table support with a board for when you're.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd stick with MDF unless I could get MDO that was smooth on both sides, unprimed, and had access to a CNC. And you can make them in whatever shape and size you need and can even create customised hole layouts including isometric patterns if required (see Peter Parfitt's videos for demos of this). Quote from: sandy on January 11, 2020, 06:49 PM Festool 491072 is the one that I use, without any problems. If you're an MFT user and you want to share any YouTube video links with me that will help educate me, then please do. These holes are going to make it much easier to locate the drill bit accurately at each of the increments. As the GRS is already set up to plunge the first hole centered 71 mm from an edge, you can turn the rail 90 degrees and use the LR32 to make the additional 6 holes from the short edge for each of the 11 holes that were already cut. But, because my start corner is set in by 100mm from each edge, I'm also going to add another 100mm to each of those figures giving me 700, 900 and 1100.

I use whatever materials make sense for the item or project I'm working on, whether that's wood, fabric, leather, metals or plastics. My lesson learned was to use a backer board when drilling the 20mm holes to reduce the likelihood of blowout from the large cutter as it exited the Valchromat top. Using the long side as the base the row perpendicular to that (I only checked one row) was off about . If you want the useful “accessory pack” then you’ll need to fork out again, but really all you need is some star-knobs, a bit of t-track, t-nuts and some 3/4″ / 20mm dowel. Whether you're a full-time builder or a DIY newbie, you can use this pair of heavy-duty Minotaur saw horses in your next construction project. The possible applications range from routing, sawing, drilling, grinding to fastening the workpiece.

The largest range of accessories for multifunctional tables exists for this, such as workbench clamps, bench dogs and other devices. The Makers Workbench is supplied with a standard 150grit finish, leaving the striking black/grey and wood fibre core exposed. As flat overall as the very best plywood with a surface smoothness nearly equal to MDF but much more durable and moisture resistant. I must confess, I've never really understood why some folks feel the need for rail squares to set up their MFT - the whole top has a grid of holes, all perfectly square to each other - and that's what I used here. I was watching the chap who designed the system's you tube on how to set it up and make your own boards. There are also multiple kinds of MDO; some have a perfectly smooth surface and some telegraph the grain from the underlying exterior plywood core. It can be helpful to drill a small hole that is 71 mm from each edge at the corner of the MDF, as that will help in aligning the rail. However, it is faster and more precise to use workbench plates that are manufactured with the highest CNC precision.
