She is later forced to move into a smaller room, is deprived of food, and has to spend a few nights in the horrible basement that is painted top to bottom in red. She waits until Jack has carved the beef Wellington and served it with a gratin of potatoes, and carrots lightly glazed with honey. I have read a few books recently about marriages that are not all they same and when this theme is done well (as this book does) it's absolutely breathtaking and scary. He is compared to looking like George Clooney so normal circumstances would have him having to push off the women. The book is written in first person, jumping between first-person present and first-person past in alternating chapters.

Grace I thought at times was shallow, but the more I read the more I could understand her situation.

She says it was because at her birthday party, Millie told everyone her favorite color was yellow, but in other conversations, Jack referred to Millie’s future room as being painted red.

Ok, so what’s the real story of this relationship and why is Grace’s sister coming to live with them?

Then he tells her that they cannot go see Millie at the hospital before their flight, as they don’t have time. We have a lot of paintings on the walls of our sitting room but people are usually drawn towards the large red canvas that hangs above the fireplace.

An avid listener of Agatha Christie audiotapes, Millie has pretended to have a sleeping issue, but has actually been hoarding the pills to then pass along to Grace. It’d had good reviews and, to be fair, it might be that there were some surprises I didn’t get to (I’d given up at the point I mention above). Indeed, the novel does double duty as a survival manual, packed full of good advice—for instance, try not to get wounded, for “injury turns you from a giver to a taker. Paris is the New York Times and Sunday Times bestselling author of seven novels including the word-of-mouth hit, Behind Closed Doors, and her latest thriller, The Guest. His description of the thrill he gets from other people's fear is chilling and would be gut wrenching for anyone to sit through.

I finished last year on a high and this year has started on a high for just awesomeness in book material. Paris is the New York Times and Sunday Times Number 1 bestselling author of seven novels including the word-of-mouth hit, Behind Closed Doors and her upcoming thriller, The Guest. She didn’t expect to be swept off her feet by the charismatic Jack Angel, a chivalrous Prince Charming who dotes on Millie as much as he seems to love Grace. Some of their characteristics were believable, with their flaws they felt relatable in some way or another and they were also very engaging. By shifting between the revelatory rather than romantic honeymoon and Grace’s life in the present, when Jack keeps her locked in their beautiful Spring Eaton home, Paris underscores Grace’s seemingly unassailable predicament, especially with Millie soon coming to live with the couple.
